Lignomat – Our Business – Measuring Moisture Content

Our Customers who need to measure moisture content are: Woodworker – Cabinet Maker – Furniture Manufacturing – Flooring Contractor – Installer – Inspector – Concrete  Construction – Fine Carpentry – Restoration – Water Damage Repair – Remediation – Building Maintenance – Home Owners – Lumber Trade – Lumber Drying – Lumber, Veneer and Panel Production – Bamboo Manufacturer and anybody else dealing with wood or building materials.

1979 In 1979 we started selling moisture meters and kiln control equipment in the US to measure moisture content.  At first, all equipment was manufactured by Lignomat GmbH in Germany.  It soon became very obvious, that the US market required different equipment than the European market.  Lignomat USA began developing moisture meters and kiln controllers made specifically for the US market.  Today, we offer pin moisture meters and pinless moisture meters, moisture meters for concrete, lumber dry kiln controls and a variety of wireless monitoring devices for moisture and humidity conditions.

Our commitment to Quality and Service. The first pocket-size, low-cost moisture meter, the mini-Ligno was developed by German engineers in 1979. The mini-Ligno is still an all-time favorite with over 200 000 units sold. The mini-Lignos still use the same housing with the green cap. The electronic circuitry inside has been up-dated several times. The last up-date was completed just recently to increase accuracy when measuring the many different wood species and materials being used today. More calibration settings were added for the mini-Ligno DX/C to include Bamboo and some of the new engineered panels as well as a wider variety of domestic and tropical hardwoods. To increase versatility, sheetrock calibrations are included. In The Following Years We attended many Woodworking Shows to introduce the new mini-Ligno moisture meters. Often, we were asked: Why do I need a moisture meter? The sign we used then, is still true today.

Avoid shrinking, warping, delamination, loose joints and foggy finishes. Protect your work. Buy a moisture meter. Do not waste time and money on wet wood.

Our First Moisture Problems Info Sheet To educate woodworkers about moisture problems, we published our first informational brochure: “Wood Moisture Problems, Helpful Hints and Moisture Meters”.  The leaflet was distributed at all Woodworking Shows. Click here to review the brochure The mini-Ligno Series Since the introduction of the original mini-Ligno in 1979, we added 7 more mini-Ligno models.  All meters are built with the same high quality components, but offer the user different features.  Prices range from about $100 to $199. Pinless Moisture Meters – the Ligno-Scanners Ligno-Scanners, Ligno-DuoTec and Ligno-Versatec are a complete line of pinless moisture meters.  Outstanding features are

  • Dual-depth 1/4″ and 3/4″
  • Unique to the Ligno-Scanners SD, SDM, BW
  • Multiple built-in corrections for different wood species, bamboo, concrete

Due to a unique measuring technology, we can offer dual-depth pinless moisture meters. The dual-depth scanners can measure thin and thicker boards, top layer and overall moisture content, applications where water-based finishes are measured, etc. Combination Pin and Pinless Moisture Meters After both technologies had been fully developed, we added a combination moisture meter for pin, pinless and RH technology to our line of products, the Ligno-VersaTec.Relative Humidity and Temperature Measurement Off the shelf thermo-hygrometers come in handy, but are often not very accurate.  For increased accuracy we developed the RH BluePeg System. But that is not all.  Since we have many hardwood floor installers as our customers, we developed an RH sensor which can be used for measuring the moisture evaporation in a concrete slab. Concrete Moisture with In-Situ RH Probes Many tests have confirmed that this is a more reliable test than the Calcium Chloride test to avoid moisture problems in wood floor installed over concrete slabs. Monitoring devices utilizing the accurate measuring technology we developed over the last decade, we have developed new monitoring devices.  Wireless and wirebound, on-site or over the Internet.  Check out our new products at the Lignomat Moisture Logging website.  If you have a question about your specific application, give us a call and talk to one of our engineers.
